Tilted Chrysler !, a photo from New York, Northeast

Je me suis aperçu récemment n'avoir pas encore posté de photo mettant en valeur mon building préféré : le Chrysler Building.
Pour réparer cet oubli, j'ai donc parcouru mes photos de NY, et même si celle-ci n'est pas la vue la plus académique de l'édifice, j'ai trouvé qu'elle illustrait bien son architecture art déco, et notamment ses superbes gargouilles.
Je trouve aussi qu'ainsi il a un côté étrange qui colle bien au surnom de New-York : Gotham City. On s'attend à voir surgir Batman d'une fenêtre, non ?

Pour mémoire, le Chrysler building a été construit de 1928 à 1930, à la vitesse moyenne de 4 étages par semaine, et a été jusqu'en 1931 le plus haut bâtiment du monde.
Pour obtenir ce record, la flèche de 60 mètres et 30 tonnes, en acier inoxydable, a été assemblée à l'intérieur même du building.
L'édifice compte 77 étages et 3.800 fenêtres. Il mesure 319 mètres.
Les gargouilles du 31ème étage, visibles dans le coin inférieur droit de la photo, représentent des bouchons de radiateur Chrysler (deux ailes d'aigle), celles du 61ème étage représentant le cou et la tête du même animal.

I recently realized I haven't posted yet a photograph emphasizing my favorite building: Chrysler Building.
To repair this, I took a look to my NY pictures, and even if this one isn't the most academic sight of the building, I found it illustrates well its art déco architecture, and in particular its superb gargoyles.
I also found this picture to produce a strange atmosphere, working well with New-York's nickname : Gotham City. Couldn't we see Batman jumping from a window ?

The Chrysler building was built from 1928 to 1930, at the average speed of 4 stages per week, and has been until 1931 the tallest building of the world.
To obtain this record, the 60 meters and 30 tons arrow, made in stainless steel, was assembled into the building.
It counts 77 stages and 3.800 windows. It measures 319 meters.
The gargoyles of the 31st stage, visible on the lower right corner of the picture, represent Chrysler radiator caps (two eagle's wings), those of the 61st stage representing the neck and the head of the same animal.

Une belle vue diagonale du Chrysler building, avec un ciel donnant une atmosphere lourde. Une jolie luminosité et de belles couleurs, les details sont bien nets.

chrystler building is much nicer than any other skyscraper in NY with its distinct design. I like your angle and the sharpness of the photo..

'tention ca pique !
tu poastes ici mon building prefere de la NYC skyline, alors c'est pour moi un devoir de venir visiter ta photo, je trouve qu'esthetiquement c'est de loin le plus reussi meme si ce n'est pas le plus haut. Amusant le tilt qui le transforme en missile. Alors content de ton aprem' hier, surtout vers 18:00 ? :-))

i'. not totaly convinced about the tilt concept here, neither i am against it :-)) strange, to some extend...
what i love here most is the pp work you have done and the resulting tonal range, particularly the contrasting sky...

La couleur du ciel a l'air un poil artificiel mais elle se marie bien a l'ensemble.

Hello JB,
quel ciel impressionant... J'ai l'impression d'avoir un ciel lourd et métallique... pas autant que le bâtiment tout de même ! Le cadrage est excellent et très original. Une bonne façon de s'amuser avec la perspective et la profondeur. L'idée est bonne et contraint forcément le regard vers la pointe du building Chrysler. Une réussite bien nette accompagnée d'une bonne note !

Voici un usage du tilt parfaitement justifié: ce building est tellement imposant que c'est quasiment le seul moyen de le photographier sans avoir un grand vide dans la photo à coté.

Tes pdv penches capturent vraiment l'architecture imposant des batiments neoyorkaises. Je trouve aussi que le niveau de clarite des detailles est superbe.

An extraordinary capture of the famous building, with a tilt that mesmerizes the senses. The unique and massive neck of the building angles through the frame like out of a movie set. Ouais ca le fait... C'est graphique, c'est beau... j'adore! Ton postprocess est vraiment top et met super bien en valeur le building. La compo n'est pas en reste avec un tilt qui a du sens et donne une touche d'originalité. Belle lumière, détails. C'est du tout bon et hop dans mes favoris. Bravo!

classical diagonal. I consider colours as needless. Using B/W distinguish contrast between the sky and sharp buildings lines.

Sorry to stay with your NY shots at the expense of the others JB, but they're a good inspiration for my forthcoming trip there in a couple of weeks.
This one has worked well. I like how you composed it so that the building is running from corner to corner; dramatic and effective.
This would have worked even better with a darker sky. Selecting the sky and darkening it without darkening the building would have added to the impact, I think.
Not that this shot lacks impact, it's just a suggestion.

Hello JB,
I love the Chrysler, it is the best example of architecture of the time. Your image shows great detail in the fine workings of the spire. The clarity allows a good insight into all of the componants of the structure. I often see this building in black&white, which is always a grand sight. Good angles also, the building as a diagonal was a good idea.

difficile de choisir parmi toutes tes dernières images, c'est du lourd. Grosse préférence pour celle-ci pour le graphisme et le dynamisme visuel. A la regarder fixement on a la tête qui tourne.

Je découvre, JB, cette superbe photo d'un ancêtre gothique de la ville à la pomme. Le tilt est bien choisi pour mettre en valeur cette architecture hors du commun. La lumière et les couleurs sont au top. Que du bon !
