Voici une nouvelle photo de mon building préféré, le Chrysler Building.

Célèbre gratte-ciel new-yorkais, il est situé à l'intersection de la Lexington Avenue et de la 42e rue, dans le quartier de Midtown, sur l'île de Manhattan.

Dans cette photo j'aime bien le fait qu'il est représenté dans la lumière, alors que les autres constructions visibles sur la photo sont elles dans l'ombre.

J'ai hésité à "démonter" le "tuyau" qui apparaît à gauche de l'image, je l'ai finalement laissé, je trouvais cette partie de la photo un peu vide sans lui.

This is a new picture of my favourite building, the Chrysler Building.

Famous New York City skyscraper, it is located on Lexington Avenue and 42nd street, in Midtown district, on Manhattan island.

In this picture I like the fact that it is shown in the light, whereas other visible constructions are in the dark.

I wondered if the picture would have been better without the "pipe" on the left part, but I finally keep it, as I found this part a little empty without it.

Wow. what a great classical shot of the Chrysler Building. I must admit that it is one of my favorite buildings in New York as well. I love the dark vs. light here despite it seeming such a gloomy day with the building lighting up the shot. You captured all the wonderful detail in the building's roof well.

You post this just as I am watching the same building on the National Geographic channel.
I like the colours and how they make the Chrysler building standout even more.
I think the 'pipe' on the left adds a little bit of balance to the composition.

Je partage avec toi beaucoup d’intérêt et d’admiration pour cet édifice intemporel, à la fois classique et audacieux, contemporain et historique. Il y a cinq photos d’accrocher à mon babillard: 3 filles, 1 moto et le Chrysler Building en noir et blanc. Oups! J’oubliais, il y a une carte postale avec la face de Robert DeNiro...

Bravo pour cette superbe photo, où seul l’édifice est baignée par la lumière, lui permettant de briller de tous ses feux. Je trouve que cette image rend bien la splendeur que dégage le Chrysler.

Je me trouvais à cet endroit quelques jours avant toi et j’ai eu moi aussi à «composer» avec ce tuyau... De l’avoir laissé dans l’image ne cause pas de problème, puisque ton sujet principal, le Chrysler, est photographier dans son contexte, c’est-à-dire avec d’autres éléments de son environnement. Conséquemment, le tuyau a autant de raison d’être que l’édifice au premier plan, puisqu’il fait partie de l’aménagement urbain de Manhattan.

D’un point de vue esthétique, il ne rivalise pas visuellement avec l’édifice et est suffisamment présent pour ne pas être parasitaire. Comme tu le mentionnes, il apporte un peu d’équilibre, mais de plus, il poursuit une diagonale amorcée par les édifices sombres.

This is one of those iconic building multi photographed, that's why it is very difficult to make something new. Your picture is one of those cases, an original POV of a common target. Really for me one of the best ever seen from NYC. The semi centric shining building and the different grey tonalities look very artistic, I would make a poster and hang in my room.

JB you are one of the best photographers I have seen around here. This picture shows good skills to display this interesting example of architecture. Good use of light against the building. Details and perspective of the building are great.

Love the B&W contrast and especially the background. The pipe does stick out a bit, but I agree with you - that part would've been bare-ish without it.

The Chrysler building is one of my favorites too. Certainly my favorite building in New York City. The B&W gives this photo a timeless look, as if this was a photo from the 1930' or 40's. The composition is excellent,and I'm glad you kept that pipe. Well done.

Cette construction est en effet très belle, surtout sur le haut, et méritait bien tes photos.
Excellent choix du point de vue et un tout bon cadrage avec les batiments sur la droite. Cela apporte de la profondeur a ton image.

Jolie prise de vue mais surtout joli travail d'édition. J'aime beaucoup les photos des années 50-60 N&B qui illustrent les années d'or de ce pays. C'est en definitive une photo assez intemporelle où l'on pourrait lire 'Leica M3'

Bonjour JB -

This Art Deco classic is a perfect subject for a B&W or tinted conversion. Your composition with only the Chrysler Building in the sun really focuses attention on the building and the near cloudless sky further heightens the attention. (I am sure the color version is as striking.) My opinion: the pipe/stack should go, as it would cleanup the shadows and eliminate any competing elements with the building. The technical aspects of this image are spot on. Bravo, well seen and well done!

It is incredible how the light has favoured your composition for this shot. It's amazing how the Chrysler Building is the only thing catching the sun. A beautiful image well converted to B&W

je suis content que tu postes cette photo. Le n&b est très réussi et le Chrysler est magnifique. Les détails sont impressionnants... on distingue bien les gargouilles. Tu as bien fait de laisser le tuyau car il équilibre la compo : avec sa couleur foncé comme celle des batiments de droite, il permet d'encadrer le Chrysler. Très beau travail

JB, that post is a well executed classic POV in NYC. You gave a special and personal note with your masterful PP. The pipe belongs there IMO, but for those that feels it as bothersome - cloning is around the corner ...

Much effective, careful and neat compo. I like how the bg tower is so well enhanced by the contrast of its brightness against the grey sky and the dark fg. I guess that it is much more interesting in B&W than in colour.

ce gratte-ciel merveilleux est aussi mon préféré de NY. Ta photo capte sa beauté, son élégance de lignes et sa sveltesse dans toute sa splendeur. Il se détache orgueilleusement sur les autres édifices les plus obscurs, découpé en face du ciel. Un bon travail avec l'illumination, et je crois que tu as fait bien de laisser le tuyau dans le cadrage, il forme part aussi du paysage urbain du Manhattan et remplit un peu cet espace de ciel.
J'aime ta photo, ell est bien faite.

This is a superb portrayal of this famous building. The play of light and dark make the subject stand out, the contrasts are good and the monochrome treatment works well. I agree that the pipe isnt that pretty but it fills in nicely the empty space and balances the composition.

Well composed in the vertical format. The lighting and shadow effects really make this one sing, and I like the monochromatic look. I agree with your decision on the "pipe," as it actually adds some intrigue plus additional graphism without detracting from the main object of attention. Well done...Demain.

Cette image ressemble aux posters que l'on avait dans nos chambres d'ados. magnifique noir et blanc. Je pense que tu as fait une désaturatiobn partielle en ajoutant un peu de jaune . C'est très très bien fait.

Choix judicieux du noir et blanc qui fait bien ressortir les éléments à la lumière et à l'ombre. Effectivement ce modèle d'architecture est vraiment photogénique. Belle et agréable gestion des lignes, la netteté est très appréciable aussi et j'aime beaucoup ce format poster. Une réussite, bravo.

You are right on the light on the building .. it just leaps from the image.

I also love the tone of the sky. For me your pipe finishes a nice diagonal from the shadowed buildings ..

I don't mind the chimney on the left, as you say, it fills the empty space in that part of the image very well.
This is a great shot of this elegant building, and you managed to keep the verticals almost vertical, not always easy when you're pointing your camera upwards at a tall building. I like the contrast between the bright sunlight on the Chrysler and the darkeness of the buildings in the foreground.
This shot captures the optimistic and dynamic atmosphere of the city very well. Good work JB.

J'aime beaucoup cette photo pour exactement les mêmes raisons que celles que tu exposes. le N&B amènenet un coté intemporel et le contraste est parfaitement géré. La cheminée ne me gêne pas.

Un N&B qui convient parfaitement à ce bâtiment historique et combien agréable à regarder que nos boites à sardines modernes.La période art déco ne méritait pas de disparaitre et tout devrait être fait pour en retrouver l'esprit.
Belle composition qui isole ce batiment,chose difficille en ville,qui,comme tu le mentionnes,beneficie d'un bel éclairage qui le contraste avec son environnement.La cheminé,eh bien,elle fait partie de l'endroit et ajoute un peu de laideur à coté de ce chef-d'oeuvre architectural.
