Photographer's Note

Mother owl during our usual morning conversation, in our garden in Hampton Bays. She lived there for three years, first with her babies, then with her mate, in a dead pine overgrown with a protective crown of Virginia Creeper. She would talk to me, raise her ears in alarm at the sight of our Golden Retriever Coco, and sometimes drop her pellets on (or just past) my head. A 10-minute video of this special friend and her babies frolicking around outside our living room can be seen at Unfortunately, the dead tree fell down, bringing an end to our friendship.
