Photographer's Note
Here is the famous Biltmore Etate, known as America's castle. It was built by George Washington Vanderbilt II and this became his purpose in life. He put less and less time into family and business matters to build this house. It's where most of his inheritance millions went towards.
Vanderbilt's idea was to replicate the working estates of Europe. He commissioned Richard Morris Hunt, who had previously designed houses for various family members, to design the house in imitation of several Loire Valley chateaux, including the Chateau de Blois.
A bit of trivia: In 1912 George and Edith Vanderbilt booked passage on the Titanic but canceled due to a premonition of Mrs. Vanderbilt's mother. It was too late for them to get their servant and baggage off the ship; both were lost when the Titanic sank.

It is nicely done. Good framing, exposure, and all that. Seems to me like it might benefit from some more sharpening to bring out some of the detail.
Great place, Biltmore, isn't it? And did you pick up on the fact that the forest around it is second growth, replanted about the time the mansion was built?

So interesting ! Makes me think about Huxley's novel about eternal youth (don't remember the title), describing such fantasy in the States,
... The photo is great, showing with lots of details the architecture and the sheer size of the building, dwarfing the tiny visitors...
TFS,
Cath.

Hi Dan!
Very interesting post! Good details on the arhitecture of the chateau. I like the golden colour of the stone against the blue and cloudy sky. Perhaps, the picture would have benefited from a less cntred position?
When I saw the picture I immediately thought of a similar folly we have here in Brittany. It's of the same period although not quite as sophisticated. I am posting it to you in WS of yours, I hope you don't mind.
