Disney's Sky on Fire!, a photo from California, West

Photographer's Note

We went to Disneyland exactly when the fire was around California, and specially, at Anaheim hills. When we got out of the fabulous "Pirates of Caribbean", we saw this brown sky, after some wind changing. There were ashes falling from the sky and the surreal atmosphere was this. After maybe one hour the sky became blue again. I saw some people who lives in the hills checking in at our hotel at Anaheim, with their cars full of belongings like computers, paitings, whatever they can grab to put in the car. Its a sad problem of California, every year.

Ola Jose,
This indeed creates special strange conditions, very dqrk for a daytime image but it seems it has snowed on the castle, which generates strong highlights.

those wildfires are unfortunately common recurrence in Southern California... Sad as it all is, it worked out great for you. The view is simply eerie, what a contrast with and what strange feeling in a fun place like Disneyland! Excellent presentation, my friend. TFS! Hi, Jose. A very strange atmosphere with the fairy tale castle standing out against that brown sky. This looks quite unreal. The contrasts are very strong. The rails in the middle of the road point to the castle and the car on the right leaves the view open and balances the composition.

cara, eu estou completamente OFF do site...não tenho mais fotos a publicar e o ânimo está quase zero. Por isso não tenho seguido o trabalho dos amigos, o que inclui você :((
Quando olhei o thumbnail, pensei que você tinha alterado o céu :) É uma situação única, mesmo. Parece que o céu engolirá o parque. O engraçado é que não teve chuva depois disso. Interessante e bem apresentado.

I live about 15 minutes away from Disneyland. It was one of the nearest fire to where I live. So it was very unsettling, With the desert like climate and wind in the fall and dry brush, it is a problem and unfortunately most of this are cause by human.
This is a great shot considering the backdrop. The brown sky Looks like some special effect applied in pp. I have seen some very beautiful sunset through the smoke. Very good capture.

Excelente registro, uma foto realística que ficou surreal. O castelo que se destaca límpido nesse céu marrom ficou impressionante! Eu já vi uma situação semelhante por aqui; houve um desastre desse tipo e teve um dia que amanheceu alaranjado - tudo estava alaranjado mesmo, de dar medo. Mas não durou muito, ainda bem.

Good to see your post again.

I like it.

The light seems very special here to give you the chance to stand out the architecture of the Disney feature while keeping the sky so dark. Yet the FG seems still visible with details.

I think this is very rare light condition. The effect is great on your POV. Great job to capture such amazing mood of the light and moment!

Oi Zeca, o fenómeno que descreves deve ser assustador de facto. Por outro lado pode ser encarado como uma experiência surrealista de quem está dentro de um filme de fantasia da Disney. Excelente captura da atmosfera dramática com o castelo de sonho a brilhar bem lá atrás.

Well the fire is back again at this moment around Santa Barbara, in Southern California.
Very impressive shot and most of all is that despite the ashes falling from the sky the people is still enjoying the place very quietly. Excellent work.

Nossa que céu estranho Zeca. A coisa está feia para esses lados com as queimada hein? Na primeira ve que vi a foto antes de ler a nota achei que fosse algum processamento, estou pasmo.
A composição está ótima e o céu fez um bom contraste com o palácio ao fundo. Gostei do carrinho no primeiro plano.

You found a great luminosity on the disney's castle which have created a wonderful contrast with the darker elements.

Puxa, tu tens realmente pontaria para essas luminosidades e céus surreais! Com que então até na Disneylândia conseguiste isso?! Infelizmente já vi um par de vezes o que os fumos de grandes incêndios florestais fazem à luz, mas nunca tinha visto céus castanhos. Como disse o Ricardo, quase apetece pensar que é um efeito especial criado pela Disney. Está muito bem enquadrada e o castelo ao fundo fica com um ar ainda mais encantado.

Thanks for sharing with us this Disney photo,we can feel the atmosphere and we can remember our holidays there.I would prefer the colours to be more vivid,the atmosphere to be more pleasant but the photographe rs imagination is free to appreciate the creativity
