Photographer's Note
Chalk this one up as another photo that I can take off of my Las Vegas Bucketlist.
I've been wanting to shoot this scene for a couple of years, and for some reason in all my previous trips to Vegas I just never got around to capturing it.
This is the escalator entrance directly on the Las Vegas Strip that leads you to Bally's Hotel.
It was extremely frustrating getting this photo because of all the constant barrage of people walking onto and off of the escalator. I actually didn't mind having people in my photo, that wasn't the issue. The issue was where I had to place my tripod legs. Everytime somebody walked on or off the escalator my tripod shook up and down violently.
So I had to wait for a scene when people were way down at the end...which may not seem like such a big deal, but believe me that the foot traffic in Las Vegas is amazing!!!
I'll add a couple of WS photos, as the color lights often changed.
cheers

Hi Craig
a Las Vegas bucket list now that intrigues me. This is an amazing shot and I can see why you wanted to get this image, because it is original and quite wonderful. The lights and effect are stimulating but it the symmetry and perspective that do it for me. One of your best and number 700 too! Congratulations! Keep em coming..................

gorgeous symmetry, and great color selection,
as well as some marvelous details -- the people for perspective, the tiny red lights,
the reflective light streaks -- all leading the eye to a payoff bullseye.
super futuristic and very jetson-ish ... you've really nailed it, craig.
well done!

Hello Craig,
congratulations on your 700 postings on TE (must be many more if we take into consideration the workshops)! Your passion is inspiring and I wish you thousands of ideas and challenges in the future as well. I like this picture very much because of the irresistible way you used the perspectives and the recurring patterns. There's a powerful sense of movement in this setting more than on the people actually gliding away. The colour combination is unusual and attractive. Congratulations and thank you!
All the best, have a great day,

now that's my kind of shot! Love it. I sympathise with the footfall issue - I just hate having people in my shots! If people were meant to be photographed why do we build such amazing structures?!

Hi Craig,
now I can understand why you come back to Las Vegas so willingly.
I guess it was not the best place to set up a tripod:)
the more we can be happy you did not give up!:)
The scene looks awesome! It has futuristic look and for me definitely something from Matrix feeling. The special light and colors in combination with tube shaped escalators create here eye-catching visual effect.
I think only for this one shot was worth to go to Vegas again!
Congratulations to Your round anniversary!

Hello Craig,
Congratulations on a very successful "career" on TE and passing this little milestone.
I don't have any tripod problems, as I never use one, but even I get frustrated sometimes when taking street shots, waiting and waiting for people to be at a suitable distance from me, and noboy stepping in front of the camera at the decisive moment.
This is an interesting, but slightly gloomy, passage but the symmetry of the photo makes it worth seeing. The different light of the ws is quite amazing.
Kind regards,

Hi, my friend Craig,
your 700th post here. Congratulations!!
I like the symmetry and the great geometrical effect of the elements of this pipe-shape escalator of the entrance to the hotel.
The reached graphical power is awesome, and I admire your good management of light and colours, in a beautiful architectural composition, where people adds a nice vitality.
A great work, and I wait for other 700 or more photos.

Hi Craig,
Congratulations to 700 pictures! This is a great picture, a very good POV and a very interesting architecture. The persons here provide the proportions here and add life to the scene. Apparently one of the rare places in LV without any visible equipment where you can donate your money.

Hello Craig,
Fabulous photo!! I really like this one; it's so futuristic and symmetrical. :-) I feel like if I look at it long enough I'll be pulled into some magical vortex and transported to another dimension. O.k...maybe I watched too many Twilight Zone episodes..ha ha!! Your patience really paid off. I think you captured those people at the perfect moment; I like that the foreground has no one there. Congrats on #700; you are a true "photoaholic"!
BTW, this heat wave is terrible!!! It's been 35 C or higher since Sunday, and it's supposed to last until this Saturday. The A/C isn't even helping much anymore. I am now a resident of the Big Baked Apple!!!!

Hello Craig,
My first instinct is WOW!
What a shot!
It is like some giant machine from a science fiction movie! The colours are terrific and really add to the overall effect.
Just love those decreasing circles and converging lines which almost catapult us into the very centre!
Have a great day,

Thank you for your comments on my photos. I picked your latest photo to critique. In part because it was visually arresting. In part because I am one tired puppy and need to get some rest. Most of the quality of this photo can be attributed to the POV, choice of subject etc. However one thing that did strike me is the use of contrast or should I say the appearance of high definition. I have seen some very good photographers stumble at this hurdle. HDR or the effect looks deceptively easy. It is not, it's almost a zen thing. You walk a very narrow tight rope of too much or too little, not as a whole, but in the constituent parts of the photo. Do one area too much the other becomes out of balance. So here we have perfect balance. Kudos to you.

Hello Craig,
Very interesting architectur shot. I understand why it was on the bucketlist. I like the Science-Fi feeling of this view.

Hi Craig,
congratulation for the 700 photo mark! I'm almost there.
I like your photo, I feel inside a future scene! Till the woman clothes with the soft blur seems came from the future.
A fantastic modern architecture work on this entrance.

Wow! Sometimes takes someone from outside Las Vegas to see the great photographic possibilities the city has to offer! I've been through this walkway several times but didn't even think of photographing it. Looks like a scene from the future. Nice captured with good lighting and nice details. Good to have the people for scale. Did you make it to the Neon Boneyard? TFS.
It is an exciting city with many things to offer visitors, but if you have time next you visit I'd be happy to meet with you.

HI Craig
This gives an idea as to the vast scale of everything in Vegas. To be honest, I would probably go and just spend hours shooting here. What an entrance! Good on you for your patience too, I've tried this kind of thing before (in VERY different surroundings) and I have to admit to losing patience after ten minutes or so. This is a really cool shot.
All the best
Noel
P.S. Thanks for the comment on visiting Vegas, if the chance arises, I will definitely take you up on that!!

Hello Craig
Superb graphical composition, like a scene out of a Sci-Fi movie. I think without any people it wouldn't have worked as well as this amazing shot.
I just love the all the straights, curves and colors. It is perfect!
Believe me, I know how frustrating it can be in some places when you are waiting for the perfect shot and have people walking in your frame at all times. Happened to me just last weekend again at top of Mount Titlis at an altitude of 3000m when I tried to take a shot of a swinging suspension bridge over the glacier. Or then there was nearer to you beautiful Butchard Gardens outside Victoria, try to take a shot of the rose alley without anybody in it ...
have a great evening

Hi Craig,
First off, #700...big congrats! Another milestone achievement. So glad you're posting here, and hope it continues for a long time to come.
This makes me want to punch myself in the face! :) I say that in the kindest of regards...you see, I've been going to Vegas for over 20 years now to visit friends...even lived there for a summer, and must have passed this spot hundreds of times! Damn me for never seeing it this way, what an awesome shot!!
Amazing that there are this few people too, as you mentioned in your note...it's a rarity to catch it without someone blocking the scene or rattling the tripod. Symmetry, color, lines, patterns...it's all a glorious combination. Feels like the entrance to an alien spacecraft...the kind that takes you into a sound & light filled world that will take all of your hard earned money via slot machines and poker tables! :) Well done indeed.
Take it easy,
Jason

Congratulations on your 700th! A really stylish shot to celebrate with too - something about it reminds me of the 60s (the pastels? The women's dresses?) but obviously sort of space age as well... Nice symmetry and POV. And of course I appreciate that you were probably given several odd glances as you stood there with your camera, just waiting... always a fun experience!
Looking forward to at least 700 more...

Dear Craig
Happy happy 700th photo. What an achievement! I can remember when you wrote that you couldn't imagine getting to 100 photos! And now you've done that seven times! A wonderful achievement and a lot of dedication. If it wasn't for you and some of the other TE nutters, I wouldn't still be here, so I thank you for your great photos, your notes, critiques and the laughs. What a typically Craig photo to celebrate with too. It's a gob-smacker for sure. Hey it even succeeded in changing Malgo's mind about Vegas! Needless to say, the perspective is what does it for me here, the incredible depth and those funky colours. Great work, and thanks for everything.

Hi Craig,
Geez, how did I miss this one?
Brilliant graphism, fabulous colours and stunning lighting and contrasts. What more can I say? This one's a real cracker - as also is the red version in your workshop. Your other workshop serves to remind us how difficult it can often be to get the right viewpoint and secure it while others are crowding around about you.
Brilliant!

Hi Craig
Very well conceived and executed urban image. Beautiful (almost) symmetry, colours and the exposure is spot on. Well done on using the tripod (in spite of the difficulties you mention in the note) and keeping to ISO 100 - it may not be immediately obvious in an image of this size but it does improve the quality a lot.
Best wishes
