New Yorkers at Bryant (again), a photo from New York, Northeast

This is a re-post. First of all I'm really sorry for posting this again. Although I received some good comments on the original photo, I was not satisfied with the final presentation. I found the contrast too high and somehow the image reading was unpleasant for me. That can be very subjective so I would not be surprised if someone tells me the other is better than this. After re-working on the photo I realized that posting another b&w version would be worthless so following the suggestion of Lucas Vieira (lucasgalodoido), I opted for some partial desaturation, emphasising the people (which was the main theme of the photo) against the scenery in monotones. Just to make this more valuable and attending the request of John Maenhout (jhm), I posted the original color version in the ws.

New Yorkers enjoying a cloudy afternoon at Bryant Park.

Because of the park’s geographic location in midtown Manhattan–one block from Times Square–it is a destination for a wide range of people. During lunch hours in warm weather months, the park typically hosts over 5,000 business people, and counts 20,000 visitors by the end of the day.

Among the amenities available to visitors are a French-style carousel, a boule board, chess tables, extensive gardens and seasonal planting displays, the Bryant Park Grill, and free wireless access, as well as 2,000 moveable chairs for pausing to take in the sights.

Bryant Park offers refuge from the hustle and bustle of the city, and provides multiple venues for year-round events and gatherings.

I like this a lot
Its very very surreal with the combination of b&w and colour
It has given me food for thought, i have used this combination before but not on this type of scale very interesting

seeing the photo i said that had seen it before.But reading your note i said yes,this is the same.I can say that i don't remember the first one with details, but this is one has the contrast and the desaturation very well successful.I love the perspective creating from the sitting and resting people, as the great contrast with the B/W grass.A good re-posting shot.

Sou fã do seu trabalho, imagino a dificuldade que você teve nesta dessaturação parcial, muito bonita, mas eu prefiro a anterior, gosto do clima criado pelo contraste. De qualquer forma, cada uma delas pode ser vista sob uma interpretação diferente e isto é que torna o trabalho instigante.

Eu acho simplesmente fascinante esses efeitos de desaturação parcial. Só se faz isso com o Photoshop? Já tentei com o GIMP mas achei super difícil e trabalhoso.
Ficou incrível o resultado de as pessoas em cores e o resto em P&B.

Olá Carlos,

bom eu tinha realmente gostado da foto original. Aqui o efeito de desaturação seletiva interessante tipo efeito 3D como se elas saissem da foto, principalmente esse pessoal da frente. Mas ficou um pouco artificial, parece que as pessoas foram adicionadas na foto posteriormente por edição.

Das 3 versões fico ainda com a PB.

As cadeiras são do parque?

Love how you have depicted the casual activities in the foreground against the New York skyscrapers. The details are well managed throughout the frame. Superb choice of tall frame and I am amazed with the number of people having a relaxing time around the square.

I like this version very much, and I highly appreciate your constructive and critical approach to your works and their presentation on TE. Actually I believe that a color photo is in many cases better than its B&W version, but in this particular case your intermediate variant seems to be the best. Very artistic job!

bella idea quella di creare questo effetto desaturando parzialmente l'immagine. Ho visto nel WS la versione originale e sincaramente questa è molto più particolare e veramente creativa. Sottolinae maggiormente la staticità dei grattacieli e il dinamismo, movimento dei personaggi.

Fantástica esta imagem, você é mesmo um expert em dessaturação parcial. Trabalho de mestre! A ênfase às pessoas deu um efeito magnífico. Só acho que você deveria ter colocado na categoria 'pessoas'. Mas aí também é difícil escolher, pois tem muito a ver com o comportamento das pessoas neste LUGAR!

Na verdade gostei muito das 3 versões. As roupas bem coloridas das pessoas já as destacam na versão original, mas também ficou interessante o trabalho de desaturação parcial para dar-lhes um destaque ainda maior. Muito boa a ideia de mostrar as diferentes versões. Belo trabalho!
