One of only a handful of 18th century lighthouses still in operation in North America, it was originally lit in 1736. This is the fourth iteration of the light though it was built upon ~60 feet (18m) of the third lighthouse. All buildings have been restored and preserved.
It currently displays its 1916 daymark and has a first order Fresnel lens that is 9 feet tall. There are 178 steps to the top of the lighthouse.
