Photographer's Note

Lunar eclipse over Los Angeles City Hall. At 2 AM, I drove 35 miles to downtown LA to take this photo. There already were two other photographers setting up their tripods nearby in the otherwise deserted city. A police petrol car swung by, hardly spending more than a glance at the three shadowing figures setting up tripod in the dark. Within minutes the moon went fully under the earth's shadow, and a dull red hue spread over it, the Sun's rays bending through the earth's atmosphere to seep into the shadowed area. I experimented with several different foreground, ultimately took a series of shots through this tree with denuded branches, using the small on camera flash to illuminate the limbs.
