Photographer's Note
Just east of the end of the Grand Canyon, another canyon starts on the Colorado River - Glen Canyon.
In the 1960s, Congress and many other federal government officials, including the Bureau of Land Management(BLM), approved the design to build two dams within the Grand Canyon. The Sierra Club sued in federal court to stop the dams because no environmental impact process had been detailed or approved. The Sierra Club waged a propaganda battle against the pro dam forces. Basically warranted because the dams would have submerged the Grand Canyon, destroying its existence. The pro dam leaders proposed a compromise with the Sierra Club, they would build a dam outside of the Grand Canyon at the unknown and little used Glen Canyon, near Page, Arizona.
Months later, the Sierra Club discovered after the dam was started, that Glen Canyon was also a unique and valuable resorce, unique geology features, and Native American historical artifacts, to be submerged and lost forever.
This image is a vertical portion of the Glen Canyon Dam with a shadow of the auto bridge on its wall.

Hello Ray,
I know that the dam was very controversial . But the lake that was made is also beautiful. I liked the trip with the boat. I can't imagine how it looked like earlier. Interesting composition.
Have a nice day and Happy Easter

This note upsets me and but I thank you for sharing it. Yet another example of Big Corporations ignoring the environmental impacts and First Nations' sacred land in order to build things that destroy. It's an impressive photo and POV alright, but one which makes me sad and angry. At least the Grand Canyon was saved by people power from these greedy environmental vandals. Thanks for making us aware.
Warmest wishes
Lisa
