Olympia Marina

After our drive through the Olympic National Forest, we had a brief stopover in the capital city of Washington State, Olympia. This is a view of the marina at the southernmost tip of Budd Inlet, an arm of Puget Sound. The sky wasn't very clear, which was probably the first sign of the Canadian wildfire smoke, which reached a large part of the Pacific Northwest in the next few days (stay tuned).

Olympia, located 100 km south of Seattle, was named after Mount Olympus, the highest mountain of the nearby Olympic Mountains. Olympia has almost 45,000 inhabitants.

Hello Lars,
A well framed composition with lovely lights and colours. I like the point of view looking along the line of yachts toward the contrasting focal point offered by the red freighter. Some delightful reflections.

Hi Lars,not a great show to watch but the electric vertical reflections are a winner. Not lucky with the light but the quality is still good,interesting view from a city not very common on TE. Have a nice Sunday and thanks,Luciano

Hello Lars,
The forest of masts is beautifully reflected with slight distortions. The mainly red larger ship balances on its own the entire rest of the photo because of its brightness and size. Whereas most people know the European capitals, the capitals of the US states are often hard to remember for non-Americans. Who would have thought of Olympia? I wouldn't.

The red hull of the Panamanian freighter contrasts well with the blue sky. Good sharpness and nice reflections in the water. Amazing repetition of the boats, yachts and masts. Tfs!

Excellent framing for this maritime view. That big red cargo ship is so well placed on the corner. Small ripples are just right for creating distorted reflections of those boats. And the greyish sky works surprisingly well as the background for the boats.

The shimmering quality of the reflections adds a special quality to the photo. The color of the ship, of course, creates a special chop mark. You've composed the scene perfectly.

again, this could easily be taken here in Vancouver - if we had more time together I would have taken you to a spot in Richmond similar to this. love the progression of tall masts, then you have the large red ship as the icing on the cake. sweet ripple effects too. cheers

Hi Lars,
very attractive harbour scene. There is a lovely contrast here with the marina with the densely crowded little boats and the huge ship on the other side of the frame.
It is like two different worlds also having respectively different reflections.
There is something very picturesque in this sight.

Zo, we kunnen weer verder.
Dit is wel een heel fraaie compositie met het rode vrachtschip aan de linker kant en het woud van masten en hun reflectie aan de rechterkant. Een prachtige reflectie bovendien met de gekartelde masten. Waarschijnlijk liggen de boten te wachten op een Olympische zeilrace.
