Photographer's Note

About midway between Wickenburg and Wikieup along highway US 93, the Tres Alamos Wilderness lays hidden behind the hills on the western side of highway. A gap in the hills showed interesting formations worthy of exploration and, on my return journey from Burro Creek Canyon, I stopped and went exploring.

Many people pull to the side of the highway in the area, not to explore what lies beyond, but to admire and photograph the Joshua Tree forest that flanks the highway.

This photo was taken along the wash between the hills. Taken in color, I converted it to monochrome using a yellow filter. The result reveals the starkness of Arizona's desert areas and makes me think of old westerns seen on a B&W TV.
