Photographer's Note

Gary Price was inspired by a TV show he watched, which told the story of how a white supremacist turned into an advocate of multiculturalism. He elaborates, "This story fascinates me. The prejudice could only occur when there was no interaction. When the associations were built, the barriers were destroyed. Friendships occurred. This idea is what Circle of Peace represents; portraying children from all walks of life playing with and enjoying each other. The children form a circle, which represents the continuum of humanity. The clasped hands represent the interaction and cooperation, together with compassion and respect, which engenders humanity. Respect for each other’s uniqueness bridges the gap between any indifference."

This sculpture was installed at the Benson Sculpture Park in 2001. We can also see Big Charlie by Carrie Quade (installed in 2006, the fat pig close to the left edge), Green Pastures by Mary Zimmerman (installed in 1987, the two sheep beyond the Circle of Peace), and Resting on a Rough Sawn Bench by Robert McDermott (installed 2003, right behind the man walking his dog).

PS. Thanks to Gert, we now know the identity of the two unknown sculptures in the WS. Since TE, once again, lost the capability to edit WS notes, I am going to add to the main upload's note:

The unknown sculpture in the left WS frame is "Hangin' Around", created by Mark Hopkins. It was installed at Benson Sculpture Garden first week of May this year. Apparently, it is the first of six sculptures donated by the Loveland High Plains Arts Council to be installed this summer. All six sculptures would be dedicated at a ceremony on Saturday, July 9 (today, as I add to this note).

In the right frame is On a Roll by Jack Hill, which is one of the six being installed this summer.

Thanks, Gert!
