Photographer's Note
Just because the sun is down, does not mean that work is over. For a soldier in any country, their job requires them to work at all hours of the day and night. Perparing for a mission that will take place in the morning, the soldier writes out the details with only the headlights of the Humvee to illuminate his vision. This task was not finished until after midnight. Wake up the next morning at was at 5am.

One of the best in an OUTSTANDING series, Mark. This is top notch photojournalism, no question. It is as meaningful as it is successful from an artistic standpoint. either way it is a winner. The sahdow of that cap against the snowy expanse of the paper is hanuting, man. Wow! Cheers, Francis

Yeah man, super shot, the shadow of the soldier is fantastic, everything is perfect in this shot, wouldn't change a thing, shot looks almost monotone except for the pinch of colour on his hand and marker.
Very cool.

Another amazing composition. Excellent use of light to create an interesting photo. Good tilt and POV. My only complaint is that there is a lot of color noise in it. I don't know if it is from post processing but I think it might be good to try and lower it a bit. Great photo. JP

One of the most inventive shots I've seen on TrekEarth for a very long time : I especially praise how the actual flesh hand continues the shadow silhouette of the soldier.
A unique combination of flesh and shadows... Plato's cave for dummies, where's the real and the projected reality.
A favorite.
Ranting again : if this shot was taken by ############### (name concealed : scratch your monitor until the name appears.) it would be now over a 30 critiques by now.
C'mon all yesmen unhelpful criticers : at least do a good thing for today, get your finger out and throw in your two points because IT REALLY DESERVES IT.

Luko:
The problem is not because the author's name not ########.
It's because Mark didn't join one of the bands and get his friends (including girlfriend) in so every picture he would automatically get a blind magazine of 30 medals or so.
When he does so, I would rather move to and reside in Stung Meanchey, Cambodia to smell the garbage than visiting his group's academy.
Here you go, my two humble points to a "discovery".

Hi Mark, I was 'away' for a while, but saw them nevertheless, these pictures of you. I actually never know very well what to say about pictures of soldiers, so I'll stick to the very clever way you framed this one, the excellent conmposition, and the light in the picture, with the most important shadow. I'm not a photography buff, but I think this is VERY well seen, as with the other ones in your series.

Excellent shot Mark, very nice motion blur with this shadow. Very good light and nicely composed. However the hand might be a bit sharper.
