Photographer's Note

This is Mount St. Helens located in the Mount St. Helens National Volcanic Monument. Of course on 8:32 Sunday morning, May 18, 1980, the major eruption occurred. The focus of the shot isn't necessarily of the volcano itself but rather the destruction left behind. The landscape looked other worldly. You can see some gas being emitted from one of the vent chambers. I was surprised to see nothing growing back after 25 years in the immediate blast vicinity. I took this at the famous Johnson Ridge Observatory. Also it did have a minor eruption about 1 year ago.
