Photographer's Note
A soldier fires off a 60mm mortar round during a live fire exercise.
This is actually part of a photostory on military life that I shot this past summer. Unfortunately, I am only posting it in bits and pieces due to my laziness. Sorry!
btw, this photo took about 100 shoots to catch. I don't think the Nikon D70's 3FPS was meant to catch exploding rounds.

It's greate you to catch the moment! You're lucky to have the digital camera otherwise you'd be need to spent a number of films to make so interesting shot. TFS and congratulations!

"I don't think the Nikon D70's 3FPS was meant to catch exploding rounds."
..what to say: Thank's God and Nikon for not specializing in war games photo captures of projectiles ...
Good action shot Mark - but maybe a little out of season for xmas...
..or maybe that's just the right xmas mood some need - what do I know..

excellent capture, good craftsmanship in pressing the button, but frame - not really special.so what is the point actually, to show Nikon can do it, to prove rockets actually fly?. anyway, it reminds of pictures of drops of water people with digital cameras like to take, hundreds of times until they get what they want. only here subject a bit more thrilling.

you finally posted my favorite shot! It's so cool it's almost too good to be true! Makes you look twice. Again, the color version was great. This isnt' bad though. I am glad you like to tilt the camera. I have found that most series photographers frown on it but I think it can be a great tool sometimes. JP

Amazing catch! Very nice angle and composition. I applaud your patience, but I hope your ear drums survived.
