Photographer's Note
No, there are no hobbits in Michigan but this could almost pass as a Hobbit's house. Built into a hill it only lacks a circular opening.
Instead, this is the back entrance, I believe, to Henry Ford's boathouse on his estate. This opening, hill and stone were all carefully designed and constructed to look as natural as possible. It is part of the Jens Jensen designed grounds of the estate to merge a midwestern landscape with functional structures.

Perfect timing Paul, today I finished reading the Hobbit (never read it before). This is almost as I had pictured it. The greens are beautiful and i just like the path leading to the hidden door. The little blue florwes are great.

Very interesting and particulary astonishing structures and idea, above all for back entrance. But it seems well done as it finally looks almost natural. You captured it very finely in a nice composition with the path guiding to the entrance and the green foreground and also surrounding this entrance.

Nicely placed in the photo so that we can almost see that it's a hidden hill side. Good job with the shaded lighing as well, I think. Maybe a little bright on a few wall stones? I like your note, and looking forward to more photos from this area.

C'est curieux et très bien fait cette construction, assemblage horizontal de pierres plates à joints vifs. Très bonne note d'accompagnement Paul.
Le petit chemin en pente nous invite tout naturellement à aller regarder ce qui se cache derrière cette porte !
Belle composition.
Bien vu Paul.
It's Curious and very well done this construction, horizontal assembly of stones punts to sharp joints. Very good note d'accompagnement Paul. The small inclined way quite naturally invites us to go to look at what hides behind this door! Beautiful composition. Well considering Paul.

Nice title! Some titles increase the beauty of photos this is one of them. It is a place where one would like to explore. It may be scary at night though. I like the composition. Regards, Seda..

A nice composition, Paul, with nice soft light all the way to the door. And it's nice to see a little more green on the trees and bushes - and those lovely flowers. I understand that in high Summer it's hard to find this "natural" descent to the "hidden" door. The structure of the limestone "terraces" are well shown and indicates some of the work put into this back entrance. Well seen and well captured!

A really nice shot. I'm going through a serious 'greenery withdrawal' at the moment. Living in Tokyo it's not easy to find anything even remotely like this!
Beautiful place for sure. Maybe you could have taken it from a lower viewpoint to include more of the path and less of the foliage above. There is a sense of mystery to this photo. Very nice.
