The Cape Cod National Seashore, created as a national park in 1961 by President John F. Kennedy, stretches over 43,500 acres of dunes, ponds, woods and almost 40 miles of shoreline on the Atlantic Ocean.

This photo was taken while hiking the Fort Hill Trail, which passes through wetlands and light forest in the section of the Cape Cod National Seashore in the town of Orleans.

It was a bright overcast day with only occasional sun, providing excellent, even lighting for getting saturated colors and great detail.

When I took this shot I was trying to capture the peacefulness of the shade under the trees. I also liked how the twisting boardwalk and the leaning tree balanced one another, and how the boardwalk "leads" the eye into the shot. To me this photo conveys a sense of quiet expectation - what's around the bend?
