Photographer's Note
Sometimes the sunsets over the lake at the back of my house are so beautiful I can't help sharing them with you.
And yes, to all of you who know me I was drinking a nice cold beer while I was sitting there watching the sunset unfold before me.

Hi Peter,
Loving the way the clouds and the reflection draw the eye to the center of the image.
Great use of the light with a slighly longer shutter opening.
The colours are great. Maybe the sun itself on the horizon is making the left hand side a bit on the bright side, none the less still a great shot
Thanks
John

Hi Peter,
from the icons I understand your style and your favourite landscapes: this one is an explotion of colors and amazing reflections. A small horizon line for a fantastic view without border between the earth and the sky.

Hello Peter,
A great rendering of this wonderful fiery sunset. The composition is well framed with the tree on the right making a good anchor point as well as creating a fine sense of depth. An amazing blend of colours. Who could ask for a finer view from their back porch?

Hi Peter, I'm envious of your location, to be able to sit out the back drink a cold beer surrounded by this scene - magic. the still water has provided a wonderful relection and the wide angle works well too. Cheers, Steve

Dearest Poit
I think your "from the verandah sunsets" are the equivalent of my "red rocks" ;) I'm so bloody jealous that you can sit there half sloshed, not move from your verandah and come up with a stunner like this. Damn you, damn your verandah...evil laugh. Have a good one, bit overcast today...got any of those photos?

Hello Peter,
I am so jealous that you can see such a view from your home, and you should be envious of yourself. This is astonishing! Of course, in a point diametrically opposite you on the globe, right here in Virginia, 80 km south of Washington, I am looking out at a snow covered landscape. It might even portend a White Christmas.
Warm regards (not to play on words),

Dear Peter,
the colors and the light are breathtakingly beautiful!. You have composed another wonderful impression of the Narrabeen sunset from a very well working POV. And I do not care at all about the lacking foreground (I am just kidding!) My compliments.
I wish you and your family a Merry Christmas!
Warm regards

Australia and New Zealand certainly take a front seat in landscape photography and they are in my top list in the next few years' travel plans.
The colours here are just marvelous, OK, but the real joy for me was the almost frozen sharpness of the reflections on the lake. Considering the beauty of the lake and the pleasure of having a glass of two, I think I would rarely be sober if I were living there Dear Peter. :-)
Unique suggestion I could bring would be to burn the white areas on the left, but that's a minimal thing.
With friendship,
Erdem

Hi Peter
so this is taken from your front steps eh?
while sipping a cold one..hmmm aren't we the lucky one!
is it just me or is the horizon line a tad tilted downward to the left? were you still drinking when you uploaded this? haha..dont wanna bug ya too much.
seriously though, you have to admire the blue hour and orange light here. the best part for me are the ripples in the water, and the reflection.
the treeline far into the BG makes for a great contrast for the blue and orange.
lots of depth, lots of colour
great one
cheers

Hello Peter,
Amazing colours and a great cloud formation!
Not the worst backyard view I have seen hehehe...
Interesting to see how the clouds shape an X, with some help from the reflection..!

Hi Peter,
You (we) live in a beautiful part of the world. Scenes like this remind us that Australia is a dynamic, inspiring place. The fiery skies are a delightful riot of colour set against the stillness of the water. Your house is well positioned to make the most of nature, I envy that, living in the city. I think your composition is fine, FG is not always required in photography as some have suggested below. The dark shadow and ripples are plenty. I’ll return to your gallery with some green smiles soon.

Hi Peter. A real stunner. As it is in Heaven...I must reaffirm a much earlier comment I made and that being that you are a lucky man having an ever changing "canvas" to look at from the back porch. All the best for 2011. Klaudio.

Hi Peter.
Not quite a new year's day shot, but striking enough to mark the passing of time. Stunningly brilliant, in fact. The colours are simply astounding. You've done a range of quite different shots over this lake, all the while drinking beer, if my memory serves me correctly.
I trust you had a good new year's eve. Best wishes for 2011, and hope to see you some time. Perhaps I'll come up to Sydney before long to visit some rellies.
Regards,
Andrew

Hi Peter
I'm beginning to think I need to visit your part of the world - we just don't get light like this in (old) South Wales. Far too often we just get grey cloudy skies.
The composition of this photo is perfect - lighting, reflections, shapes, composition. All helped by fabulous colours. Please don't stop sharing such beauty with the rest of us.
