Colours of Autumn, a photo from Victoria, East

Photographer's Note

This was taken in the final week of Autumn in Melbourne with Winter approaching, but the colourful leaves of this young Plane Tree are yet to fall.

I learned from Santo through one of the posting by John Plumb that this should not be mistaken for a maple tree, since the shape of the leaves and colours are pretty similar. Having one of this tree in the backyard would be really pleasant during Autumn. Beside the colours, the seeds will attract numerous Rosellas towards the beginning of Winter. But reaping the benefits is not without hard work. The round spiky seeds will rain down by the hundreds and would require daily sweeping, depending on the size of the tree.

Hi Alfred,

Wonderful colours! Love the contrast of the leaves and the blue sky in the background.
I guess for us in the northern hemisphere it's strange to think that it is actually autumn for other people. ;o)
By the way, I would have thought this was a maple tree, too!

Hello Alfred, Superb autumn colours you have captured here with excellent light & detail. I like the way you have some blue Melbourne sky showing through, it contrasts well with the yellow/red tones, There is still come green on those leaves I suspect due to Melbourne's warm autumn weather.
