Photographer's Note
At Yarra Bend Park, the largest area of natural vegetation near the City of Melbourne, the landscape varies from steep, wild river escarpments to open woodlands, formal parkland, playing fields and golf courses. It has over 16 km of river frontage, and superb views of the city and the Dandenongs from the higher areas.
Dights falls is within the park.
In the 1840s, an artificial weir was built on the natural bar of basalt boulders to provide water to the "Ceres" flour mill, one of the first in Victoria. Situated by the Yarra River in Collingwood is the industrial relic known locally as "Dight's Mill", one of Melbourne's oldest and most significant industrial sites. In the early 1840's John Dight established Melbourne's first water-powered flour mill on the site. In 1888 'Yarra Falls Roller Mills' built a water-turbine powered mill, which was the largest and most sophisticated of the thirty two water powered mills built in Victoria before 1900.
This Egret (Cattle Egret or Great Egret?) was fishing in the turbulent water just below Dights Falls.

Hi Stephen,
I like the light in this image. The contrast with shadows works very nicely. Good sharpness and colour saturation to give the scene a moe natural feel. The image is well composed and you managed to place the bird very well on the right to create amore dynamic image. Thanks Stephen.

Hello Stephen,
This bird shot is very good. First by the management of the lightning which put in evidence the white plumage of the bird and second for the blurred background which is providing a nice colored counter point with a sparkling effect.
This portrait is showing us where this bird is living.
Yves.

Hello Steve,
I wonder what else you have discovered and recorded from the Yarra Bend Park. I made two brief visits to this place in June and never see what you have seen. The Egret is well posed for you except that the legs are behind the boulders. The composition is interesting with the sparkling rapids as the backdrop. On this resized posting, it seems that the back of the Egret is whitewashed, loosing the details. Hope I am wrong.
Thanks for Sharing your work
Cheers
Alfred
