Photographer's Note
This photo is for all the northern hemisphere members here on TE, as the heart of January conjures up memories of long lost vacations.
Perhaps lingering memories of a trip to the Caribbean, or beautiful beaches in SE Asia, or if you're lucky enough, the South Pacific.
This photo was taken a few years ago when I was studying in Australia. With a week off and some winnings from good ol' Crown Casino in Melbourne, I went to Fiji with three friends for two weeks of beautiful beach life. We spent our time island hopping the Yasawa island groups which are northwest of Viti Levu (the main island).
While I have seen many a stunning beach, I still feel as if Fiji has had the most remarkable water I have seen (still hoping to get to the Maldives, Seychelles, and French Polynesia to compare...).
On Sawa-i-Lau there is a very fascinating network of caves which you can swim in, I took this just before entering the caves.
Just a simple photo of a gorgeous place, one which I can only dream of now. Needed a pick-me-up after shoveling snow today here in Canada for what seems like the hundredth time this winter.
Memories are a beautiful thing...
Since some people are wondering, the photo was taken with a Canon PowerShot S400, a clunky ol' point-n-shoot from the dawn of digital cameras. When 4.0 megapixels were off the charts. It has since died an unfortunate death and been replaced by much, much better cameras.

not sure what to do - thank you for posting a fantastic shot or start cursing, since I've just switched on the extra heating in my NYC apartment to keep me from going totally ice-man :)
seriously - love this shot with soothing blue colours and perfectly transparent water. and I quite like that there's no person in the scene, it makes it easier to imagine that this is what I'm actually looking at. thanks :)
best,
Kristine from northern hemisphere

Very simple and a little grainy on my monitor but certainly a beautiful tropical beach, with the underwater sea textures and the shapely clouds present, cliched featues such as coconut trees or a sandy foreground are unnecessary. (keep shovelling that snow b*tch, it's forecast sunny all this week in California :-))

Hello David,
Yes! Another traveler to Fiji who had to make do with an inefficient and low quality camera. I share your pain! Mine was only 2MP, but I am still glad I had that rather than nothing. Fiji certainly has the best water I have ever seen. We island hopped around the Mamunuccas group just south of here taking in Denarau, Plantation, Malolo, Honeymoon, Castaway and Beachcomber. I will have to return and visit these northern parts. Very effective work despite the limited functions and capabilities.

Hello David
A very calm and wonderful landscape (but without tsunami, je je). He is pleasing to see the diverse tonalities that form in the water, the manifest depth towards the horizon, where the sea with the sky is based.

Olá David,
é uma linda imagem de intensos azuis. Parece ser um lugar muito tranquilo. Gostei dessa divisão de tons e o equilíbrio da imagem em sua exposição e brilho. Parabéns!
Abraço,
Carlos
