Photographer's Note
Local children playing, Natadola Beach, Viti Levu, Fiji.
Natadola Beach is Viti Levu’s best. Its vast expanse of white sand slides into a turquoise sea, which provides good swimming regardless of the tide.
Another shot from many moons ago when I spent some time working in Australia, and managed to grab a week in Fiji. Back then, Natadola Beach was pretty unspoiled and undeveloped as you can see. I suppose a lot of changes have taken place in the last twenty-two years. A quick Google search brought up something called Natadola Beach Resort, so I suspect it's significantly different: "just relax by our magnificent fresh water swimming pool, set amongst lush greenery. (No children under 16 years of age.) If you would prefer a round of Golf, shuttles leave nearby for the internationally acclaimed Natadola Bay Golf Course."! Oh dear.
Kasia: I haven't forgotten your desire to see some more oldies!
Shot on my trusty Canon AE1, with Kodak colour print film; neg scanned on a Nikon film scanner at 4000dpi.

Hello Will,
A fine capture of this tropical paradise, though perhaps not so much of a paradise these days judging by your notes. The kids playing seem quite oblivious to the horsemen riding by and to the photographer I guess. Good colours and clarity; a fine conversion from analogue.

Hello Will,
Twenty two year old but it seem a picture of yesterday.
Notwithstanding a very difficult picture through the bright sun, but you did this wonderful.
This makes your picture very interesting.
Very well composition, and excellent presentation.
Sharpness and clarity are perfect.
Very well done, TFS.
Best regards,

Hello Will,
First of all - an interesting and informative note. But, oh dear, one of my biggest hates is the concept of "organised fun" and I suspect that the newly developed Natadola Beach Resort provides just that and in bucketloads. Not only will they provide trips to allow you to play golf, but I'll bet they'll have places at this beach which sell European beers and ice creams too, all the time blasting out horrendous piped music. And no children under sixteen? Phooey.
So this is a historic shot - I'm sure no-one would be able to capture this lovely scene any more. And a fabulous shot it is - and one of remarkable quality considering it's been scanned from a twenty year old colour negative.
A very fine composition with the two horses and riders perfectly placed near the water's edge, the smooth curve of the beach leading the eye well into the distance and with children playing in the immediate foreground. Gorgeous light and fabulous colours, perfect exposure and terrific details and sharpness.
Beautiful!
Kind Regards,
John.

hello Will ,
A superb composition . It could be a typical beach post card , but with the horses , there is something more ...
I like the large place given to the sky .

Hello Will,
My first impression in seeing this photo and the date was the quality of the colors you achieved in your scan of a 35mm negative image. There is a serene atmosphere created by the riders on horseback, and the children at play in the sand. Twenty-two years later, the children are in their late twenties, the horses are long since gone.
Warm regards,
Bulent

Hi Will!
It may be an old one but the colours are excellent! Beautiful place and really far away, too:)! I like the composition with only the two horseriders and the children, wonder if it's overcrowded with tourists by now!

Hi Will,
Fiji seems to be so far away! I like very much the well saturated color tones especially the greenish sea and blue sky of course. Horse riders add a nice and relaxing touch here.
This is a very nice point to mark on a map I am genuinely jealous, you have already answered the question which straight away came to my mind: you have worked closer there and this is why it made sense to visit this place. Similar for me was the case when I lived in California I had a chance to go for short break on Hawaii, otherwise from Europe it does not make much sense...
Beautiful place -pity to hear that it is not as pristine as it was at the time of the picture taking.
Judging by the quality I would not guess this is such an old photo. All my predigital pictures are quite bad quality now. May be just because I never actually had a better camera before.
Beautiful!

Hi Will,
This oldie looks like it has been taken yesterday ! What a lovely landscape ! That's a photo of paradise. The two people riding a horse add an interesting point of interest in a strategic place in your framing.
Best regards,
Delphine
