Photographer's Note
As I mentioned in the note to the first picture that I posted this week of Kiribati, very few tourists visit Kiribati, so sometimes when kids in the villages see a white man with a camera they just go crazy – dancing wildly like the girl in the middle and doing handstands like the girl on the left. After a while they will calm down, and you can get some nice shots of the kids (I will upload one tomorrow) but I thought I would post this one first so that you can see the environment in which they play.
The girl in the foreground somewhat spoils the balance of this photograph, but when you have six excited children (or at least five of them were excited – one seemed more interested in what she was drinking) dancing around in front of you, getting the right composition is not an easy task. The girls were all in heavy shade, so adjusting the levels to compensate for the contrast caused by the bright equatorial sun meant that the highlights in the top left are a little blown out, but my Photoshop skills are not advanced enough yet to overcome that.

not so well off ... but still very happy kids ... I wonder what makes us happy .. the better standard of living ? ... if not than why do so many people strive for it so hard
Cheers ... sarju
PS: Nice photo david ... I love the way you have captured the look and emotion on these beautiful happy faces

Hi David,
I love these carefree kids and their wonderful expressions. Frankly, I like this composition especially with the zigzag pattern formed by the row of laundry, the tree trunk and the girl on all four. It holds the elements beautifully in the frame. Nice capture and thanks for dropping by. Regards.

very pleasant photo to look at! I also like the title..
Composition is nice considering the circumstances. I've encountered similar behavior from kids in small villages of asia. It's a joy to see. Thanks for sharing..

Thanks for sharing. Interesting to see how people live in such a remote and hardly accessable location!
