Whatipu panorama, a photo from Auckland, North Island

Photographer's Note

Looking back to the Waitakere mountains from the dunes at Whatipu - a wild and beautiful place, and where it is easy to find solitude even though it is only 45 minutes from Auckland.
On the right is the entrance to Manukau harbour and Cutter rock, a sacred spot for the Maori as they believe that after death spirits pass here on their way to Hawaiiki, their homeland off the northern-most point of the mainland at Cape Reinga.
I had trouble uploading this panorama, and had to distort it. Click on the photo for the more accurate full-size photo!

Very nice Brian, I was there a little while ago and it didn't occur to me to present the diverse landscape as a panorama...doh.

The lakes you captured aren't always there...depending on how rainy the weather is!

I love the colours you have captured, your DOF and perspective - all very well done.

How many photos did you have to stitch together?

Brian, your panorama has come out so well - superb view of the lakes that come and go! So that land on the right in the distance is the South Head of the Manukau entrance then? Very well presented, TFS

It is many years since I went there, and I can remember how BAD the road is - one of the worst in NZ I think!

Hi Brian and excellet panorama here the large version is superb. You have not done what most people including myself tend to do and take panorama's of scene's that are just too far away.Nice colours Ex blending and nice and sharp.
P.S instead of disorting you small verson to get enough pixels for the height you can add extra CANVAS to produce white or black bands (or any other colour you choose) to the top and bottom of the photo, this is only nessary on the small version. Photoshop, Elements, Paintshop Pro & most other Imageing programs can do this. Message me if you need to know more.
