Wide Land, a photo from Santa Cruz, South

Photographer's Note

Another wide view from my trip to Patagonia. Clouds, vast expanses of land and a few sheep here and there, that's the memory I've kept of eastern Patagonia.

Only upon locating this image near the Chilean border, 35 kilometers south of Rio Gallegos, I noticed that these mountains in the distance are actually volcanic craters. I figure that we drove through the Pali-Aike Volcanic Field (thanks Google, Wikipedia et al). It's the only sign of volcanic activity in eastern and central Patagonia, a landscape formed by eroded sediments.

For the image: I think I should have left a bit more room on the bottom, but I guess I was too impressed by the wide sky when taking this image.

This is a beautifull vision on the Patagonie. The large place for the cloudy sky is nice and the black and white is a great idea.

I think the composition is perfect as it is with the huge sky and tiny land underneath it, it's the story you want to tell, right? smart use of black&white too, it definitely adds drama to the scene. excellent shot, Adrian, it perfectly conveys your memories of the wide open space :)

Du hast die extreme Weite dieser Landschaft toll eingefangen. DEn Horizont hätte ich mir ein bisschen höher gewünscht, ansonsten ist alles A+.

I love that endless space and how much of the photo is for the sky. very nice light and b&w. for me more of the ground is not needed here. beautiful part of the world I suppose
