Sol de Mañana, a photo from Potosi, South

Photographer's Note

The Bolivian side also has a geyser field called Sol de Mañana (Morning Sun), a desert area with intense volcanic activity at 4850 meters above sea level. The fumaroles here can reach heights of 10 to 50 meters, due to the pressure with which they are emitted. However, as I've been here at the end of the morning, there was only a small fumarole coming out of the cracks on the floor.

A pic of rugged and hostile land showing its grandeur, vividness of colors and warmness feel with nice shades and shadows. Imagine the feeling to see that Flying saucer arriving!! Great natural capture with excellent contrast to blue sky, Congrats

It seems to be a landscape not from our Earth, like an other planet, amazing colors and the smoke/mist coming out of fumaroles, very nice photo

A closer view of the active craters, wonderful picture of this activity which is not so usual for many people/photographers.
The earth at 4850m alt. has no trees - almost moon-face terrain (never been to the moon...) marvelous colors of the soil.

You were very close at the crater we see the vapour nice about the earth.
Of course, wonderful for a picture with the nice colours.
This creates depth and perspective.

It must be more dangerous when you visit this area on a time that the fumaroles are less visible. You could put your feet on the wrong place.
A surreal world with such lunar landscapes!

The scenery looks very inhospitable but strangely fascinating. It really looks like it could be another planet. I like the grey and brown tones of the ground. There is not so much smoke coming out of the crack but still enough to create a sense of excitement and possibly danger.

haha, ya this looks very similar to much of the landscape we see in Iceland. You could have posted this as Iceland and we wouldn't think other wise :)

I like the rust colors, the rustic harsh landscapes, the way it appears there are very little to no life living here, it's got that isolated feeling to it. the mysterious atmosphere is great too, fine post. cheers

I like very much desert landscapes. For me there is so much beauty in these extraordinary places. I could spend ages walking around it.
Very interesting subject with some steam coming from the geysers.
This is an unknown aspect of this desert to me.

tivemos tempo suficiente para ver essas fumarolas fedorentas. nosso guia disse que um turista brasileiro enfiou a perna num deles e ela cozinhou e ele a perdeu. eu e minha amiga brasileira ficamos nos perguntando se seria verdade ou era só uma piada dele com a nossa cara.

Parece um outro planeta. A composição simples ficou boa, pois prestamos atenção somente na peculiaridade do solo, sem distrações, e realçado pela presença da fumaça e das sombras. Muito bom, tem certeza que foi no planeta Terra?
