The Carmo Convent of Salvador was a Carmelite convent , located in the Mount Carmel slope (Pelourinho).
It is one of the oldest and largest convent of the Carmelite Order in Brazil . Built in 1586 by the First Order of Friars Carmelitas. It served as a shelter for the Bahia citizens – who found refuge and safety in the walls that are true fortresses’ during the war against the Dutch, who aspired to dominate Bahia and Brazil a former Portugal colony.
Attached to the Carmo Church great convent is the Church of the Carmelite Third Order, which constitutes another masterpiece of incomparable beauty. The Carmo Church also has one of the world's most beautiful sacristy today.
