Springtime Snowfall, a photo from Isle of Wight, England

Photographer's Note

I guess this time of year is pretty much classed as early spring!
This snowfall was mainly limited to the higher ground, although a little did fall at lower levels too.
I decided to go up to St Boniface Down in Ventnor to capture the sunrise over the snow.
I think this shot worked quite well although i admit that there really isn't that much going on in the photo, i think that sometimes simple is better :-)

I used an ND8 Graduated filter

That's such a wonderful picture, full of sunlight, well balanced shadows and excellent and truly beautiful tones of colors!
Sharpness, exposure, viewpoint and composition are all outstanding as well! I specially enjoyed the shadow of the half-opened gate! TFS - Congratulations!

Wonderful. Strangely enough I did not imagine there to be snow on the islands. I don't know why I had that thought. Watched too much Father Ted perhaps - and never saw snow there. And I know, those are other islands! ;-)

Hi Jamie,
the result of Graduated Filter is noticeable. The colour tones you obtained is quite original with a colourful upper right half and a delicate and pale lower left half. Also the shadow of the fence adds a great balance in terms of volumes. Congratulations, Dario.

Hello Jamie,a good composition and a great study of light and shade.I like the positioning of the sun in the frame.

Like Dennis, I never imagined that the Isle Of Wight would get snow!It has certainly given you the opportunity to make some lovely shots.

Yes you are right, Jamie, there's not much going on in this photo, but the light is superb and that more than makes up for the lack of an exciting subject. It is nevertheless a very well composed photograph and excellent light management and use of the ND filter. Cheers . . . David
