Photographer's Note

Though geographical well north of the polar circle, the Lofoten Islands of the coast of Norway profit from the gulf stream and thus have even in winter a moderate climate. The islands are of a stark beauty in an unspoiled and wild landscape with deep fjords and towering mountain peaks. The moderate winters makes it one of the world's best places for photographers wanting to chase the Aurora Borealis.

Allthough arriving a day late due to a strike by Norwegian's pilots this place is a photographers dream and thus the only tourists around at this time of the year where small groups of tripod carrying folks with huge backpacks full of fancy gear.

Salut Daniel,un vrai spectacle!!! Hello Daniel,
Thanks to the gulf stream winters on these islands are quite moderate. But didn't you have the difficulty of having only a limited number of light hours?
The white landscape looks magnificent interspersed with the dark trees and their branches.
Beautiful soft colours of the sky that are also reflected in the sea. At what time of the day is this picture taken?

Hello Daniel,

Interestingly, we had a speaker at our camera club last night who brought some lovely photographs from the Lofoten Islands but this image is as good as any of his!

The light in the sky is beautiful and contrasts well with the snow covered mountains and the snowy foreground beautifully. Gorgeous light and colours, perfect exposure, a fine composition and exquisite details and sharpness.

Hello Daniel, What an idea to got so far north in winter! It must be dark and cold. Usually we see colourful houses in Lofoten, here is marvelous landscape in beautiful light. Stunning view, for sure worth going there.

It's supposed to be Arctic Fantasy! What application are you using?
Brilliantly done and superb exposure but I'm getting cold just looking at it. Brrrr. The composition is really good and I like the colours especially the incredible sky that makes the image come alive, with the snowy mountain springing out of the water are too beautiful for words. Lovely this was taken from; an ideal point of view with superb fg interest, I thought I had heard the last of,''stop yawning at the back and pay attention'' when I left school Dan, but I hear that at my camera club all the time now!! This must be a photographer's paradise and Very tasty. Congrats on your superb lens work, TFS

Ahh this is truly beautiful. Easily one of your best. It's so subtle, so soft and atmospheric. I love the soft pink hues and the fragile, dainty trees which look like an etching. The light here has been superbly managed and is of course the star of the image. The subtle reflections of pink on the water take my breath away. What a superb and flawless photo. Congratulations dear friend.

I went there in February last year and stayed in Svolvaer. You have just brought those memories back!

Maybe one of the last winter pictures of the winter 2014-2015.
Very low taken with a lovely perspective and depth image about the river.
This is a pleasant panorama sight about the area.

What a beautiful scene, photographed with exquisite composition and crisp, colourful details.
You are right, this is a photographer's dream, but not every photographer would have created a mood, like this. The naked bushes, snow-coated terrain and pastel sky, combine in this mood of infinite tranquillity.

I like that you show a side thats not too often seen.
lots of snow around, and the hint of orange light in the bg is quite nice indeed.

This is a magical photo, it is so calm and remotel it seems a million miles from the world I live in. No traffic, or people, or buildings, just the finest points of nature and a stunningly beautiful sun and coffee toned sky above. The combination of the gold and coffee colors of the sky and the cold silver and white tones of the snow down below are really striking. A fantastic picture.
