Photographer's Note
St Peter's church in the tiny village of Buckland in the moor, on Dartmoor.
"The first church here was built in the 13th century, but the present building dates to the late 15th or early 16th century.
At the bottom of the churchyard stands a delightful thatched vestry, the only one in England still in use."
Look carefully at the clock face: The work of the Lord of Buckland Manor, William Whitely. In 1931 Whitely had the clock built as a memorial to his mother, who had died shortly before. Instead of numbers it has the letters that read 'MY DEAR MOTHER'.
When we were at the church I was unaware of this feature, so didn't take any special close up shots.
Maybe I will have to return, although the roads to arrive here were very narrow!
One more shot in the workshop.
Thanks for visiting.

Hello Jean,
A lovely capture of this English church, bathing in such a bright and appealing sunlight. The composition is very good with the church well placed at left. The small headstones are well included in the foreground.

Hello Jean,
It seems you took this photo at 12 minutes past (DEA)R, provided the clock showed the right time. It's a funny detail, but even with a normal clock this would be a very beautiful church, and what I imagine to be a typical English medieval church. There is a rather iconic graveyard too. The building is the WS is extremely attractive. Both photos have very nice colours and light and the main photo is perfectly balanced.
Best regards,
Gert

Hello Jean,
Strange and at least unusual for me to see that the vestry is a separate building. It has a very beautiful roof.
The cemetery is quite small and the few graves seem to be arranged in a certain pattern and not in long consecutive rows as is the case in Belgium.
Beautiful huge tower with battlements at the top.
Best regards, Paul

Bonjour, cher Jean,
Cette vue principale donne l'impression d'être revenus au Moyen-Âge avec cet édifice religieux, son cimetière avec un magnifique environnement de maisons aux toits de chaume.
L'image est fort belle.
Amitiés.

Hi Jean
A beautiful pic which has been very well composed and captured. The grave stones inviting one to walk into the heart of the composition - the imposing medieval church. Wonderful clarity, light and interest throughout. A real joy to view.

Hi Jean
its funny to hear you say 'but the present building dates to the late 15th or 16th century" as if that's some sort of disappointment hahaha, we don't have anything that old here in Canada. it still amazes me that these stone structures are still standing, how is that possible???? wonderful subjects with the vestry, this place is so old! looks great in this lighting you captured. cheers

Hello Jean, This is so typical English picture. The stone church with not so high square tower and the old graveyard with the plates, not the crosses. Lovley composition.
Kind regards MAlgo

Hello Jean,
Two beautiful photos with some nice facts. Especially about the clock. Something you really need to be made aware of, otherwise you'll quickly overlook it.
Excellent presentation
Have a nice day, groet Rob

Hi Jean,
The cemetery is framing well the church. The point of view is showing the details of the St.Peter's church. The light is enhancing the beauty of the colors. Have a nice day.

Hi Jean,
nice composition of the church and cemetery around.
It is such a characteristic for England view. Especially with this grey stone used for the church.
The house further in the distance is much less common. I have seen more of them in Germany but also in some special remote places.
Very photogenic place well used here. But you discouraged me from going there writing about the very narrow roads :(
Very well done,
M
