Photographer's Note

A tree on the shore of Lake Khovsgol, a 2760 square km alpine lake in the North of Mongolia, not far from the Russian border. The lake is 136 km long and 30 km wide in the widest spot. It is the 14th largest source of fresh water in the world, containing between 1 and 2% of the world's fresh water. In winter, it freezes solid, and when I was there in mid-June, at the Southern end of the lake, the ice was just breaking up, and you could still see jeep tracks on the ice from where people drive across it in the winter.

I added some backlight to bring more color to the sky, which was fairly washed out. I cropped a little bit, and I ran it through NeatImage.

I like this! Nice composition, with just the right amounts of sky and land/water. I also like the soft colors. Your note is very interesting, and your photo is of a very interesting place, so thanks for sharing it with us.

The composition is so powerful here with the tree in lower left! Portrait orientation and closer up was a great choice for this.

This is a very nice scenery + interesting note. The composition is good but I would prefer a little less sky... You have done a great job with this photo... keep them coming! :-)

J'aime bien cet arbre rachitique très représentatif de la végétation des contrées plutôt froides . Je me serais même passée de la clôture même si elle capte bien la lumière, juste pour me tremper dans ce paysage aride.
