Photographer's Note

As I told in my last post, I coudn't resist to take a shot of these children. They were playing with snow balls when they noticed a strange person, wearing different clothes and saying weird words. Even not speaking the same language, I understood the message "Can you take a picture of us?"...lovely children, so friendly. They will probably be nice adult people :)...I repaid their smile with some brazilian coins, as a gift of course!

I'd like to dedicate all the smiles :) :| :( for this one to these children. The composition is silly, the quality is not convincing even after several sharpening work but I had to post it.

Hi Carlos,
Don't see anything wrong with the quality here. All I see are lovely smiling faces. The colors of their jackets & apparels contrast very well for this shot. Nice pano format too. Well done. Feel like playing in the snow too :).

I'm not an expert but as far as I can tell there's nothing wrong here. The 3 children are well standing out against the bg, they're perfectly in focus and the expressions on they're faces is so nice and natural. This is not your usual kind of shot but it's good anyway!

gostei dessa foto, a qualidade ficou ótima, não vejo probelmas de nitidez nela, e o fundo levemente desfocado como deve ser nesse tipo de foto. O sorriso das crianças e sempre contagiante e impressioante o tamanho do "para-quedas" que elas usam pra se proteger do frio.

that one, two, three with smiling kids is nice and the light is good used to focus on them. Fine capture of children's fun with some animation as you tell us in your note.

Hi Carlos,
A very nice triple portrait. and although they are posing, i like their different face expressions the the different colours in clothing they are wearing.
Maybe the dof is not perfect, but i see 6.3 is all you've got...4.0 would be perfect i think.

excelente momento, muito bem congelado com expressões de felicidade das crianças e até um pouco de seriedade (da que está à direita).
O workshop está muito bom e mostra que apesar da simplicidade do ambiente a felicidade está presente de maneira marcante.

so, why where you trying to hide this beautiful capture from us? i like this trio. personally knowing many bulgarians i can atest that the warmth visible in these children's faces is typical for those people.

it's great that they asked you to take their picture. such volunteering always brings out warm emotions...

ps. in terms of pos-processing, i guess, i would have opted for blurring the background more (but you would need photoshop or something similar). or going gray-scale. in the latter case, the white sky would be less noticeable.

oh, friend, i'm not so sure about that thick black frame in this case. but i know, that's a very very subjective point.

Qué sinceras sonrisas!! Gran fotografía Carlos, tiene la magia de la espontaneidad de los niños. Sus gestos transmiten alegría, de distinta forma en los tres niños. El trasfondo de la foto nos pone en situación, con el paisaje nevado y frío, nos indica el ambiente del lugar.

Gostei muito da nitidez, mostrando as lindas crianças em primeiro plano. O desfoque no fundo embelezou a foto dando um toque especial. Alegria e sorrisos contagiantes e belo momento.

from tech. point of view, photo is just perfect, nothing wrong on it. focus on the children is just great, background blury enough, everything fits great, as well as their different smiles.
i think this photo tells us that no matter how financially anyone stands, a smile is a smile, there's hope for the future, and joy of a moment, as life is one and only, and the world isn't just materialistic.
(those were my associations on this shot)

Apesar de não gostar muito deste género de fotos tenho de admitir que tens aqui um trabalho muito bom. Conseguiste boas cores e sobretudo uns sorrisos francos e amigáveis.

Gostei muito desta tua foto ficou fantastica e um belo retrato com estas tres crianças , gostei do fundo desfocado, com este tipo de lente não conseguias focar o primeiro plano e focares a paisagem de fundo , so com a lente 18-55 conseguias focar tudo penso eu , não sei bem tens este primeiro plano muito perto de ti, mas o sorriso das crianças ficou fantastico e so isso vale tudo :),parabéns!!

despite the cold winter, the 2 are displaying that impression of a friendly welcome, their infectious smiles! the other dude to the right preferred, I believe to take the picture and you to join, he seems to say (and you didn't get that, huh?). colorful winter outfits giving richness to the compo. and who told you this is silly work and shrapness of low quality?...open your eyes real well, and stare at it one more time..it is perfect for me even with my failing vision...:-)
oh, Monday again...i won't be having a good start i guess, my New England Patriots lost yesterday's superbowl.....:-(

I don,t know what happened to mine critic on this one. well have to write again then, the environment are rather grey and dull but the kids have real good fun they have probably playing around a lot in the snow according the soaking wet cloths they wearing and the smiles in their faces. the patter is also very typical east europe.

Don't mind the quality, it became clear, the sharpening is great and the DOF is superb. There're not too much colours, but they're OK too. I also like the frame!

I don't see anything wrong with the quality of this shot, Carlos. Although it is posed, and 'ordinary' in terms of its composition, the lovely smiles of the two kids on the left carry it. (I would have been tempted to crop out the boy on the right - although some might think that would be unkind, I think your photograph would have had more impact without him). Cheers . . . David
