Photographer's Note

Le Roosevelt Island Tramway est un téléphérique new-yorkais qui enjambe l'East River et relie Manhattan et Roosevelt Island.

Il monte jusqu'à 76 m au-dessus d'East River et du nord de Queensboro Bridge, offrant une très belle vue sur l'est de Midtown Manhattan, comme ici sur (entre autres) l'ONU, le Chrysler Building et l'Empire State Building.

Le téléphérique a été montré dans une scène clé de bataille du film Spider-Man de 2002 (Sam Raimi).
On le voit aussi dans Léon (Luc Besson, 1994), quand Mathilda (Nathalie Portman) l'emprunte seule.

The Roosevelt Island Tramway is an aerial tramway in New York City that spans the East River and connects Roosevelt Island to Manhattan.

At its peak it climbs to 250 feet (76 m) above the East River as it follows its route on the north side of the Queensboro Bridge, providing views of the East Side of midtown Manhattan, like here on UN, Chrysler Building and Empire State Building.

The tramway was featured prominently in a climactic battle in the 2002 film Spider-Man (Sam Raimi).
In the 1994 film Leon (The Professional, Luc Besson) it can be seen when Natalie Portman's character, Mathilda, is traveling on it alone.

j'aime beaucoup la gestion de l'exposition ici qui permet de voir aussi bien les personnages à l'intérieur et le superbe décor qu'ils contemplent. On dirait qu'ils sont devant une affiche. Belle prise.

Hi Jean,
You took the glimpse of frame within a frame with a true artist's vision. In thumbnail it appeared that the viwers are watching a painting; The larger version also seems to be a canvas with that lovely distinct and sharp skyscape.

Bon choix que de saisir cette scène au travers les fenêtres de ce tramway !
On a l'impression de visiter New-ork avec ces personnes.
J'aime beaucoup la structure métallique derrière la fenêtre.
C'est tout bon !

Bonjour JB,
Une super compo où tu as réussi à allier une très belle vue sur NY, une bonne dose de graphisme avec la structure du pont, une touche de vie avec ces deux jeunes qui regardent par la fenêtre, et même une impression de dynamisme avec ce taxi jaune qui file sur la route.
Netteté, clarté, cadrage, couleurs, tout est tip top.
Je me délecte avec ta série sur NY... J'espère qu'il y en a encore beaucoup d'autres à venir :-)

This is very interesting. I guess the view from up here are excellent. Nice perspective with the people almost doing what the sign say against. Good light and colours. The view through the glass seem pleasant. Thanks JB.

The script on the glass is a little bit distracting, but there is no way you could get rid of it. The natural framing and the placement of the figures are very nice. Sharp details and surreal colors are fantastic as usual...

C'est une autre compo différente, intéressante et très jolie!
NY est trop photographée déjà (la majorité des photos est bonne, mais sans originalité)! C'est ça la raison pour que j'aime vos photos!
Elles nous montrent la ville sans être trop directes!
Les coulers fortes et chaudes sont bienvenues aussi!

Salut JB! I actually like the writing on the window, I really do. It belongs to our daily life and that "everything" is dangerous, I mean it really can be but it is not always necessary to say so as most people use their common sense but if something happens the owners want to be sure that they have written it clearly down etc. etc. I like your color management, the view, the people you included, very strong and powerful. Must be quite a ride! Très bien ... Barbara.

Bonsoir Jean-Bernard,
belle compo très fine, belles couleurs et une image parfaitement détaillée, du 1e au dernier plan.
Les deux personnes doivent être des touristes car apparemment il ne fallait pas s'appuyer contre la porte, mais elles étaient trop occupées à regarder les grattes-ciel pour lire cet avertissement.

Cela me plait beaucoup comme effet mais ne s'applique pas à tous les genres de photos, ici le choix est parfait.. le rendu des couleurs incroyable..

the moment i saw the shot i remembered the batman... i like the frame-in-frame here... the couple looking out the window adds a lot to the compo... and the yellow t-shirts are the most charming factors i think...

Je ne sais pas si tu te souviens, mais je tripe à fond sur ce télécabine et je trouve que cette compo est géniale (à nouveau). La réalisation est épatante, le moment parfait (avec l'ESB et le Chrysler et pourtant, ça va vite !!!), et cette lumière, comment as tu fait !!!?
Il est génial ton travelogue. On sent la grosse grosse inspiration.

Bonjour, mon ami JB,
c'est une photo que j'aime pour quelques motifs, je n'ai pas été dans ce téléphérique de Roosevelt Island et sa vue est splendide, et je peux voir le pont de Queensboro depuis un angle inhabituel. Précisément la première fois que j'ai arrivé en NY je suis entré dans la ville par ce pont, et je n'oublierai ça jamais.
Le couple qui regarde par la fenêtre reste parfaite dans la composition.

un traitement des couleurs qui me fait penser à certaines affiches américaines d'un peintre dont le nom m'échappe, l'esthétique idem, c'est très intéressant !

How big that skyline in the background. I've never been to the States. I'm not that fond of big city environments. But New York surely is a place I'd like to have visited one day!

Colours speak their own languages......and this shot is the testimony of the line before the dots.
Astonishingly you have ahieved a great depth of field with apperture of 8 only.
I like the tight cropping here and the neatness in it.

Olá JB, your last post lead me here and I couldn't return because I love the framing and the inclusion of the ladies in yellow enjoying the view. The "DO NOT LEAN ON THE DOOR" is still a nice detail, although there are a lot more to enjoy here, including the well known icons and the graphism of the bridge.
